About Eric Nkansah, PhD

Profile
Dr. Eric Nkansah is the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service.
He is a renowned academic and prolific scholarly writer with about twenty years of experience spanning the fields of education, banking and finance, research, education policy formulation and implementation.
He holds a PhD in Financial Economics from the University of Zululand, South Africa, a Masters in Finance from the KNUST Business School, and a B.A. (Hons) in Economics from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.
He began his career as a teacher at the Christian Education Complex Junior High School and Kintampo Senior High School, both at Kintampo. After seven years, in 2007, he joined Barclays Bank Ghana (now Absa), where he worked for another six years and rose to the position of Sales Manager.
He returned to the classroom in 2010 when he took up a part-time lecturer role at the Garden City University College, Kumasi, whilst working at the bank. His adept teaching skills and desire to impact the next generation through education led him to resign from his bank job in 2012. Consequently, he assumed a full-time lecturer position at Kumasi Technical University, where he was eventually appointed as a Senior Lecturer, in addition to another part-time lecturing job at the KNUST Institute of Distance Learning, Kumasi. He contributed immensely to teaching, research, programme development, and other academic work in these universities. He has published widely in peer-reviewed academic journals.
Dr. Eric Nkansah worked as the Executive Director and Lecturer at the Career Spring Institute, an institution he founded in 2014, as a licensed tuition provider for training members of local and international professional bodies and as a specialised consultancy for small, medium, and large corporations.
He has chaired and served on several boards and councils. To mention a few, he is the Chairman of the National Committee of the West African Examination Council (WAEC); and a Member of the following boards and councils;

In April 2021, he joined the Ministry of Education on secondment from the University as the Director in charge of Tertiary Education and a Technical Advisor to the Minister for Education, where he contributed immensely to formulating educational policies at the Ministry.
On 19th October 2022, H.E. the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, appointed him the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, a position he holds presently.
Dr. Eric Nkansah is passionate about educating and developing people and believes that the fastest way to transform our country is to educate the population.
